Volunteer Spotlight, Ron McCraine

All in a day's work.

Ron McCraine

Lake Jackson Mounds Archaeological State Park

Ron always loved being outside, maybe a little too much as a child who fished and rode his bike every chance he could. One day Ron rode his bike down the Tallahassee - St. Marks Railroad Historic State Trail to San Marcos de Apalache Historic State Park. Once he arrived, he inquired about volunteer opportunities. The ranger told him Lake Jackson could use some assistance with mowing the day-use areas, so Ron signed up. Ron McCraine has been a  dedicated volunteer with the Tallahassee-St. Marks Area Parks ever since.

Living nearby, Ron assists the park year-round with much needed maintenance keeping the park in top notch shape. During the growing season, Ron mows Lake Jackson Mounds park grounds faithfully every two weeks. He provides the very best in customer service, always cheerful and helpful to visitors, staff and other volunteers.

Volunteer manager Bonnie Allen says, “Ron is a tremendous benefit to all eight parks by freeing the Resident Ranger and other staff to work on specialized assignments. He is a very hard worker, always willing to go the extra mile to complete a task.”
