Linda White

Orman House Historic State Park

Linda grew up in Alabama and attended Jacksonville State University. Vacations as a child were always to the beach in Florida, and she developed a keen interest in marine biology. Growing up rambling around her grandparents 100-acre county farm is where she developed a great appreciation for nature and horticulture. She spent the last 10 years working for the US Forest Service in Alaska.

Upon retirement, Linda and her husband were looking for a home along the Gulf. They started out in Fairhope Alabama exploring along the coast and when they reached Apalachicola, they knew they had found home. They purchased a home and moved into the small community.

Linda has had a love for antiques since she was a little girl and her mother bought her an antique trunk for a graduation present. Her great love of history and antiques drew her to the Orman House when she first came to Apalachicola and she promised to go back. Three years later she came back to donate her antiques for future generations to enjoy.  She became a volunteer so that she could assist in making history come to life in this wonderful historic site, putting to use her visual design and art skills and experience.

You'll typically find Linda walking in the gardens, designing landscapes in her mind or in the Orman House listening to the whispers of the past while she works.  When she's not at the Orman House, she enjoys exploring St. George Island State Park looking for seashells.  Linda invites you to come experience the new displays and acquisitions added to the Orman House
