Volunteer Spotlight, Karly Mathews

Karly Mathews is a local Girl Scout of Troop 2040 who built a bat house for Fred Gannon Rocky Bayou State Park. Rangers helped install the bat house on a pole and set the pole into the ground. The bat house is positioned in front of the observation deck near Puddin Head seepage stream. This location will provide bats a roost close to fresh water and prime hunting grounds.

Bats provide natural insect control, which is a great service for the park. Karly, who loves the park and the outdoors, is also a Junior Ranger sworn in right here at Rocky Bayou. Karly will receive her Girl Scout Bronze Award for her service project. We thank Karly for her contribution to our park.
