John Gavin

Tomoka State Park

John Gavin grew up in Pompano Beach, Florida in the 1950s. He has over 30 years of facilities experience, including both hands on and supervisory roles. He served in the K-12 Florida public school system as an Educational Facilities Manager and at the University of Tampa. He is a jack-of-all-trades, with strong electrical and carpentry skills. He chose to volunteer at Tomoka State Park because he has always enjoyed being outdoors, especially as a child, as he was a Cub Scout & Boy Scout, and was a Scout Leader as a father.

John enjoys volunteering at Tomoka using his maintenance and management skills to serve Florida State Parks. He fits into our park perfectly with a positive attitude, strong work ethic and an every-day dedication to keeping our parks safe, clean and up to the highest standards. He checks all 100 campsites electrical boxes and made repairs as needed, pressure washed several areas of Tomoka and the entire outside of the Tomoka Outpost, fixed roads with the tractor after heavy rains and so much more.

John is an invaluable member of our volunteer family who we can always count on whenever and wherever needed!
