Jeff Junior

Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park

Jeff Junior and wife Laura spend their winters volunteering in Florida State Parks. They were drawn to the area for the beautiful scenery, warm gulf waters, hiking trails, kayaking opportunities and the serenity. Jeff’s favorite part about being a volunteer is getting to see the local area more than most and meeting the many park visitors and exchanging stories of his travels.

For Jeff, seeing the endangered pitcher plants in bloom and sunsets on Tarkiln Lake are the perks of working at Tarkiln Bayou Preserve State Park. Hiking to the lake or through the bogs to Perdido Bay is his favorite way to enjoy the park.

Jeff enjoys helping wherever he is needed and can be found repairing boardwalks, completing repairs to signage and plumbing, or cleaning up throughout the park. One of his favorite duties is driving the tractor to help build and maintain fire break roads, but Jeff says “whatever the task, if the work is needed I’m in.”
