Volunteer Spotlight, James Diaz

James Diaz

James Diaz

The Barnacle Historic State Park

James Diaz loves woodworking. As a Middle School student at age 13, James saw a short documentary Handbuilt Boat, about the boat--building program at The Barnacle and asked to join.

As our youngest volunteer, James has been faithfully showing up almost every Saturday for the past three years. In that time, James has not only participated our boat-building project but in many other projects as well. He has built old-fashioned citrus collection crates and wooden buckets which we sell to support our boat-building activities.  He also worked tirelessly repairing damage done to the Barnacle Boathouse and Pavilion by hurricane Irma in September of 2017.

James is now in his junior year of High School and it can be said without a doubt that James has been a most dependable volunteer and a great asset The Barnacle!
