Dr. Doug Shearer

Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway

Dr. Doug Shearer was born in Paw Paw, Michigan, and has always loved the outdoors. As a child, he enjoyed riding horses. When he was in the fifth grade, his father moved his family to Venice, Florida, for the milder winters.

Dr. Shearer chose to volunteer on the greenway to help make trails for competitive trail riders and endurance riders. He helped with the daily running of the Florida Horse Park from 1996 to 2002 fixing things and collecting money from campers. Dr. Shearer loves the horse trails on the greenway; they are like no other in Florida.

As the vice president of the Greenway Equestrians group, he mows trails, trims back vine and removes fallen trees. He organizes monthly trail work parties and helps raise funds for the group with equestrian poker rides. Dr. Shearer loves all the activities out on the greenway, including riding his mountain and road bike. He enjoys hiking with his wife too.

Dr. Shearer sees himself out trimming the trails and keeping busy with the Greenway Equestrians. He loves to volunteer so he and his friends can go out and enjoy a trail ride.
