Volunteer Spotlight, Don and Gail Bullis
Gail and Don are originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Waterloo, Iowa. Gail’s background includes working for an Italian RV access firm for over 15 years, while Don’s background includes managing a chemical company in the Southeast for over 35 years. After retiring from their careers, they wanted to give back to the community and to the park they had enjoyed as visitors.
Since they are fairly local to the area, residing in Winter Park, Orlando, they would camp at Alafia River State Park quite frequently and eventually got curious about volunteering. They made the decision to speak to the volunteer coordinator at Alafia River State Park and have dedicated themselves to improving our park, by lending a hand wherever needed, as well as taking extra steps since 2018 to ensure our visitors have an enjoyable experience in our campgrounds and facilities.
As visitors to Alafia River State Park since it opened in 1996, Don and Gail have developed a unique relationship to the park’s natural resources. They delight in meeting new people and answering any questions they may have. Since they have firsthand experience using our trails, they are expertly qualified to help our guests. Without a doubt, Alafia River State Park is better off thanks to wonderful volunteers like Don and Gail.
