Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park

Melody Brennan grew up with a love for the Florida Panhandle, St. George Island in particular. She has enjoyed family camping on the island since the 1970s, when she learned from her father about the diverse and ever-changing Gulf, seashore and the Apalachicola Bay. Her father, a member of the Florida Marine Patrol, was passionate about teaching the do’s and don’ts of protecting our natural and cultural resources.

Working at St. George Island State Park since 1987 has been rewarding for Melody. She enjoys teaching others how to identify and protect our natural and cultural communities, and nesting sea turtles and shorebirds are her favorites. Melody is the park’s nesting sea turtle coordinator and assists with training volunteers and staff as well as conducting surveys when she can.

Her role as park volunteer coordinator also has been a pleasure for Melody. According to Melody, her favorite part is "getting to meet so many different types of volunteers from all over the world and learning about their lives and passions."
