Park Ranger, George "Skip" Schipper

Dr. Julian G. Bruce St. George Island State Park

Skip Schipper grew up along the Braden River in central Florida and was fascinated by the reptiles, birds and fish that shared the ecosystem he called home. He has spent his life learning about these creatures and places and loves to share that knowledge with others as the park’s interpretive chairperson. He loves interacting with the public and answering any questions they may have.

He can often be found with a pair of binoculars looking for migratory birds or one of the many unique species found here year-round and has a deep passion for the night sky. Before working with the Florida Park Service, he was a planetarium operator in Tallahassee. He regularly performs star programs with the park’s telescope. One of the true joys of his job is being there when someone sees the Milky Way for the first time, which can easily be done at the park in the summer with the naked eye!
