Park Ranger, Clayton Iron Wolf

Camp Helen State Park

As the go-to guy for many things at the park, Clayton Iron Wolf finds peace in doing what he loves as the lead park ranger at Camp Helen State Park.

For Clayton it’s not a job, it’s a calling and a lifestyle. A native of Miami, Clayton’s great-great grandparents left their home in Georgia and made South Florida their home. In the mid-1970s, his father worked as a Florida law enforcement park ranger at Collier-Seminole, Bill Baggs and Oleta River State Parks. This upbringing instilled a legacy of service and developed his ideals of being a part of something larger than himself.

As the lead park ranger, Clayton offers practical input, participates directly, and is involved with many of the park’s operations, events and activities. On any given day you most likely will find him in the field or shop area maintaining facilities, grounds, historic structures or equipment. His most enjoyable part of the job is sharing the story of Camp Helen and ensuring that visitors are getting the most out of their park experience.

While Clayton recognizes that the beach is a strong draw to the visitor, he most enjoys the nature trails within Camp Helen. When not working he enjoys riding his motorcycle and spending time with his wife, Julie, and their two pugs, Jake and Tembo.
