Caylee Sarff, Park Services Specialist

Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park

Caylee was born and raised in Miami and was fortunate as a child to explore all of Florida, from the waters of the Keys to the upland hardwood forests of the north. These experiences led her to love the environment and the outdoors.

She attended Florida State University where she studied environmental science. After graduating, she quickly realized that her passion was environmental education and she worked at several botanical gardens and museums as an environmental educator. After those experiences, Caylee sought out a job with Florida State Parks to broaden her horizons in the field of interpretation.

Caylee started her park service career in November 2020 as a park services specialist, focusing on interpretation and volunteer coordination. Working for the Islamorada area state parks, Caylee has had the opportunity to work at four state parks in the area: Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park, Indian Key Historic State Park, San Pedro Archeological Preserve State Park and Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park. She has created several new interpretive programs and displays for the parks.

Caylee’s favorite aspectof her job is getting to talk to new people every day and teaching people about the history and environment around them. She especially likes working with children, as she loves to see them get excited about science. Caylee’s favorite park to work at is Windley Key State Park where she enjoys walking through the hardwood hammock.

“I highly recommend that guests of this park to take a walk along the limestone walls, where you can take a step back in history as you examine the fossils of marine animals that lived thousands of years ago. I hope to learn as much as I can about the Islamorada area state parks and I'm excited about my future with the Florida Park Service,” said Caylee.
