The 5.2 miles of multi-use looped paved trail in the Baseline Trail segment of the Greenway provide several route options through the rolling sandhill areas surrounding this trail that ultimately connects up to the gravel stabilized Marshall Swamp Trail heading northeast towards Marshall Swamp Trailhead.

This upland area of the Greenway provides opportunities to observe red shouldered hawks, wild turkey and other species that frequent sandhill areas.

Numerous Geocaches have been placed all along the Cross Florida Greenway. Locations are available via the various geo-caching websites available online.

Baseline Road - Hiking Nature Trail

The Baseline Road Trailhead provides access to the 5.2 miles of multi-use paved trail as well as the off pavement main orange blazed Florida National Scenic Trail (FNST). The FNST can be taken southwest towards Santos and beyond or to the northeast, ultimately connecting up to the Ocala National Forest. The Florida Trail Association http://www.floridatrail.org/ produces detailed hiking maps by segment.

Well behaved dogs and cats are allowed on the Greenway with a maximum 6-foot, hand held leash and owners must clean up after the animals as needed. For detailed information on pet policy, see Florida State Parks pet policy.

The Baseline Road paved trail portion of the Cross Florida Greenway is a former sandhill community that is in the process of restoration from grazing pastures. Wildlife that frequents it includes wild turkey, Sherman’s fox squirrel and gopher tortoise.
