Staff Spotlight, Larry "Clay" Dickson

Larry Dickson was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and raised around different farms, eventually moving to Atlanta, Georgia, in 1997.

Unable to deny his love for the great outdoors, he made his way to Florida in 2020 with plans to do a two-year sabbatical from management at a testing company. During this time, he wanted to give back to nature by serving as a Florida State Park volunteer.

He has volunteered at Eden Gardens, Topsail, Fred Gannon and Camp Helen  state parks, eventually relocating to Alafia River State Park as a ranger and safety coordinator. His position allows him to be involved in all aspects of the daily park operations with an emphasis on maintenance and safety.

In his spare time, he enjoys riding Alafia's bicycle trails and getting to meet others. Larry encourages anyone to step outside and see what nature has to offer while enjoying camping, biking, hiking and fishing at Alafia River State Park.
