Staff Spotlight, Michael Dyer

Ranger Michael Dyer on the beach at Caladesi Island State Park.

Michael has lived in California, Texas, Virginia and Florida. He started with the Florida Park Service at Caladesi Island in 2017.

He says that Caladesi Island is a gem, where one can be truly engrossed in nature.

Michael enjoys working and living on Caladesi Island, watching the weather turn from hot and sunny to windy with rain while the needles of the pine trees whistle. He also loves the solitude he feels as he’s bringing the boat across St. Joseph Sound.

You will find Michael working among the live oak trees, at the park shop or in the woods spraying non-native plants. Michael says, “Because I live in and work on this pristine island, it feels as if I’m homesteading.”

When he’s not at the park, Michael likes photography, exercising outdoors, painting, woodworking and exploring. He encourages everyone to visit the Real Florida at a nearby Florida State Park.
