What inspired you to work in the parks and recreation field?

When I first started as a seasonal employee, it was "just a job" to earn some money. It wasn't until later that I was encouraged to apply for a park ranger position and I thought "I can do that." The longer I worked, the more I enjoyed the work.

Describe your job in the Florida Park Service. What are the favorite parts of your job?

I started in 1971 and retired in 2008 and continue as a volunteer. During that time, I worked at most every level. I enjoyed all aspects of park work (except the paperwork and meetings) and doing things that "made a difference."

What advice would you offer to young women who want to pursue a career in parks and recreation?

The Florida Park Service offers many different opportunities. Regardless of your interest, you can contribute and become a part of the team. Whether your interest is administration, natural resources, cultural resources, maintenance or interpretative services, the Florida Park Service does it all.
