Although multi-use, the open trails and protected scrub landscapes are perfectly suited for horseback riding. With around 12 miles of trails to choose from, Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve is an equestrian’s ideal choice. A leisurely ride in the sandhills, between pine trees and through the sunny scrub will give you just a taste of some of the natural communities that make Florida so diverse and scenic.

Wildlife watching from horseback is also easy on our many trails. Birdlife is abundant, and soaring raptors like red-tailed hawks and even bald eagles are commonly seen. On the ground, white-tailed deer dart between stands of trees, and don’t be surprised if you have to share the trail with a meandering gopher tortoise looking for a snack. The reserve is also home to some of Florida’s rarer species, such as the elusive indigo snake.

Saddle up and come and explore the trails on horseback today.
