The first time I visited Mound Key Archaeological State Park I was immediately captivated by its raw beauty. The island has a hiking trail that takes you from one end to the other, allowing you to experience the various elevation changes between the Calusa mounds. Keep an eye out for the displays along the trail that interpret the history.
The park has no facilities and can be accessed only by boat. During the rainy, summer season, the mosquitoes can be heavy. Please feel free to call Koreshan State Park at 239-992-0311 for details on conditions before you plan a visit.
