Experience ...the Real Florida frontier at Fort Foster Historic Site. Fort Foster was one of the original Seminole War forts constructed in Florida during the early 1800s. The fort was established to defend the bridge crossing the Hillsborough River and serve as a resupply point for the soldiers in the field.

Today a replica wood picket style fort has been constructed on the original fort site. The Fort Foster State Historic Site was added to the National Historic Registry in 1972.

Park rangers and reenactors provide tours, explain the fort operations and living conditions, and discuss the history of the Seminole Wars in Florida.

Fort Foster Historic Site hosts two annual, historic living history events: the Candlelight Experience in December and the Fort Foster Rendezvous in January.
