Fishing & Wildlife Viewing on the St. Marks River

When you visit Natural Bridge Battlefield Historic State Park, take advantage of the peaceful atmosphere you will find here.

The St. Marks River located on the north side of Natural Bridge Road is a popular freshwater fishing spot. This river is modest in length but long in history and has been classified by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection as an Outstanding Florida Water. Some fish you might hook include sunfish, largemouth bass, snook, crappie and striped bass.

The river and surrounding woodlands provide ample opportunity for bird-watching and wildlife viewing. While you are visiting, enjoy a picnic lunch or paddle a canoe or kayak while listening to the calls of Northern cardinals, red-shouldered hawks, Carolina chickadees, pileated woodpeckers and bald eagles.
