2020 Lifesaver Awards

On Sept. 8, 2020, Park Services Specialist Jonah Snelling responded to a call for assistance at the Ochlockonee River State Park campground. He found a female camper unresponsive on the ground apparently suffering cardiac arrest. Jonah worked with the victim's family to provide chest compressions and rescue breaths, deploy the automated external defibrillator or AED, and continue with CPR.

Jonah continued to administer CPR until Park Attendant Kimberly Roddenberry, a certified paramedic, arrived on scene and relieved him. They continued CPR until the victim regained consciousness and was placed in a recovery position.

EMS arrived shortly after, taking over the situation and transporting the camper to a local hospital. When EMTs arrived at the scene, they said the victim likely would not have made it without the quick actions of the park staff.

The Lifesaver Award is awarded to an employee or volunteer for saving the life of another person.
