Volunteer Spotlight, Melody Wagner

Melody Wagner

Alafia River State Park

Melody Wagner was born in Ellsworth, Maine to a military family, which means that she has moved around quite a bit, and had the chance to see many different places. Her background is in office management, where she once served as the regional director for her organization. After working many years in that field, she retired and focused on caring for her husband.

Melody began volunteering in Florida's state parks in April 2018. Her first park was Little Manatee River State Park. A multi-talented and dedicated volunteer, Melody assists in a variety of ways around the park. She has been a smiling face for visitors at the ranger station, served as an enthusiastic campground host, maintained the park facilities and even assisted with the maintenance duties.

Running the ranger station at Alafia River State Park is what Melody enjoys doing the most. Because she is a people person, she truly delights in making sure that visitors have a wonderful experience as soon as they come through the gate. She always lets her passion shine through when she tells visitors why Alafia River State Park is amazing. Melody feels blessed to be able to enjoy the beauty of nature daily, while giving back to the community.

Every day is incredible for her because she knows that the work she is doing helps park visitors make everlasting connections to nature.
