Volunteer Spotlight, Grady and Nancy Everett

Volunteer Spotlight, Grady and Nancy Everett

Alafia River State Park

Grady and Nancy are originally from North Carolina, they have also lived in Georgia, and have made their home in Florida for the last two years. Grady and Nancy began volunteering their time at state parks about seven years ago. The very first state park they volunteered in was Alafia River State Park, and it continues to be the place where they work tirelessly to improve and enhance visitors’ enjoyment of the many amenities and experiences the park has to offer.

After discovering the joys of volunteerism, they began to volunteer in local county parks as well, including Lithia Springs County Park in Hillsborough County. They have also volunteered in other states, including Georgia, North Carolina, and most recently, Tennessee.

What they enjoy most about volunteering and working in state parks is that they are constantly meeting new people from all walks of life and even different countries.

Grady and Nancy enjoy the dynamic nature of being a volunteer, because they get to switch gears and take over a wide variety of duties. Whether it’s working in the campground to make sure campsites are up to the best standards, or maintaining the butterfly garden to keep a good food source for pollinators, they make sure to help wherever it is needed.
