Volunteer Spotlight, Debbie and Steve Cammilleri

Debbie and Steve Cammilleri

Alafia River State Park

Debbie and Steve are both originally from upstate New York. Steve hails from Rochester, while Debbie is from from Penn Yan. They have also spent about 40 years in Sumter County, Florida.

Before discovering the joys of volunteering, Steve was a commercial contractor and superintendent, while Debbie was a licensed practical nurse for 30 years and then worked as a waitress at a family restaurant.

During a family camping trip, Debbie and Steve approached volunteers that were helping at the park to ask them about volunteer opportunities, and they instantly fell in love with the idea of giving back.

They started their volunteer journey at Little Manatee River State Park and have truly found their passion. The experiences they've gained through the three years they've been contributing to the parks as volunteers has fueled their passion. Some of the duties they enjoy most include building and remodeling facilities, assisting with the Junior Ranger Program and welcoming visitors at the ranger station.

This dynamic duo have enjoyed getting to know the staff and visitors and provide encouragement other volunteers, and continually go out of their way to engage visitors in meaningful conversations. Thank you to Steve and Debbie for all you do!
