Bill Denny

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach

Bill Denny developed a love for the outdoors during his years as a Boy Scout; camping was a favorite activity. Growing up in Dublin, Georgia, Bill dreamed of living near the beach one day. His dream came true after he retired when he and his wife purchased a home near the park in Ormond Beach.

After attending several programs offered at the park, Bill began volunteering by helping with shoreline stabilization and restoration projects. As a member of the Shuck & Share Oyster Recycling Program, Bill assists with collecting and bagging oyster shell from area Flagler Beach restaurants and placing those bags along the shoreline of the Intracoastal Waterway to help prevent erosion from boat wakes.

The beauty of the park, the quiet of nature, and the huge variety of animals and plants that can be seen are factors that inspire Bill to contribute his time to the environment. In addition to helping with shoreline stabilization projects, Bill also can be seen splitting and delivering firewood to the campground hosts, picking up litter on the beach, and assisting with parking on busy summer days at the beach day use area.

Bill’s favorite activity at the park is the kayak tours with an experienced naturalist where he learns about the numerous animals and plants of the coastal environment.
