Staff Spotlight, Shawn Majewski

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach

Shawn was raised in a small town called Lake Villa in Illinois on the Wisconsin state line. As a child, she loved the woods and hiking and spent many summers at a farm that had hundreds of acres. Shawn was always out exploring and visiting state parks, hoping to find wildlife.

When Shawn was 7 years old, a visit to her great-grandmother in Tampa convinced Shawn that she would one day live in Florida. It was during that visit when she fell in love with the ocean and the warm, sunny weather that Florida offers. That dream came true in 2017 when she moved to Flagler Beach.

Shawn’s love of nature and being outside complements her role as a visitor service specialist working at the ranger station. Her favorite parts of her job are being able to help people relax and give them ideas on what to see and do around the park and in town. Walking the Joe Kenner Nature Trail is her favorite activity in the park. The family atmosphere, wonderful volunteers, beauty of the park, and opportunities to see dolphin, whales and turtles contribute to her delight at working at Gamble Rogers.
