Volunteer Spotlight, Josephine Werni

Alafia River State Park

Josephine is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota, and has been enjoying the great Florida outdoors since becoming an Americorps Florida Conservation Corps (FLCC) member at Alafia River State Park in 2020. As a Florida Conservation Corps member, she has enjoyed getting to know her new home state, as well as being able to explore and learn about the expansive Florida State Parks system.

One of the most fulfilling parts of being an FLCC member for Josie is learning to identify plants and compare differences and similarities between them. She loves Florida wildlife and is excited whenever she spots a alligator in the wild. She also loves the Florida panther and bears, and has become very well-acquainted with wild hogs and their behavior.

Josie enjoys the fact that she can help protect Florida's environment through her hard work and dedication, as well as continue to develop her skills in preparation for future career paths.
