Hands-On Fun is a Common Theme at Dade Battlefield

From hands-on programs for kids about frontier Florida life to pioneer craft classes aimed primarily at grown-ups, Dade Battlefield offers an array of events, interpretive programs and skills classes for park visitors of all ages.

Long recognized for our annual battle reenactment, Dade Battlefield Historic State Park has become known for frequent offerings throughout the year, from pine needle basket classes to big events like

  • Florida Heritage Day.
  • Christmas on the Florida Frontier.
  • A Road Back in Time.

During A Road Back in Time, for example, hundreds of school children from around the area gather at Dade Battlefield to explore their heritage. The students rotate through dozens of stations where they learn and practice skills. For example, the students learn how to milk a cow and they learn how to use an atlatl, a tool dating to prehistoric times.
