Many state parks provide primitive campgrounds for those who enjoy secluded areas. Primitive campgrounds are areas designated for camping that have limited improvements such as a fire ring, cleared or partially cleared sites for tent camping, and if possible, potable water. These areas are not a part of the base campgrounds or cabins and are available to individuals who want to carry their camping gear, sometimes miles, to the campsite. Amenities and accessibility vary.

These sites generally have no electric power, and may or may not have potable water or convenient bathroom facilities and are typically accessible by foot, bicycle or canoe/kayak only.

  • The fee for primitive camping is $5 per person, per night.
  • Call the individual park for reservations.
  • Pets are allowed in most primitive campsites.
