Plant Life
The 357-acre park has many diverse natural plant communities, which include longleaf pine sandhill, pine flatwoods, wetlands, and coastal scrub. Florida anise, cinnamon fern, pond spice and pitcher plants are some of the rare foliage that can be found in the park, and the property holds some of the oldest longleaf pines in the state, several of which have been determined to be over 300 years old.

These areas provide habitat for various wildlife which include deer, fox, raccoons, bobcats, rabbits, and squirrels, and are also home to some threatened creatures such as the gopher tortoise, eastern indigo snake, red-cockaded woodpecker, and the alligator. Numerous birds, among them, Osprey, herons, egrets, and ducks enjoy the bayou waters and Puddin Head Lake, and can often be seen overhead.
