Additional Information for Olustee Battlefield Historic State Park
Plant Life
The park is located along the southern perimeter of Osceola National Forest, a vast timber reserve managed by the U.S. Forest Service. There are three distinct natural communities in the park. Mesic flatwoods dominated by longleaf and slash pines make up the majority of the land. Stands of longleaf pines support several colonies of red-cockaded woodpeckers, listed on the federal list of endangered species. Basin swamp consisting of wetlands with a gum and cypress tree canopy is also located on the property, as well as a small depression marsh.
Wildlife
Gopher tortoise and a variety of birds, reptiles and mammals also inhabit the land.
Pets
NO PETS are allowed at the annual reenactments of the Battle of Olustee, held in February each year. Large crowds, heavy pedestrian traffic, and repeated loud noise created by cannons and muskets firing black powder charges make it an inhospitable environment for pets. We invite you to bring your pets to the park any other time of the year; but please, for the safety and comfort of your pets leave them at home during the Battle of Olustee Reenactment.
Please see our General Parks Pet Policy for more information.
