Manager's Message
The swimming area at Ochlockonee River is temporarily closed due to high bacteria counts. As soon as conditions improve the swimming area will be reopened.
If you enjoy birding, you have a good chance of seeing the red-cockaded woodpecker. Ochlockonee River is one of the few state parks that have a resident population of these endangered birds. Now is also an excellent time to view the Neotropical migrants. Many of these small birds stop in the park on their migration route to Central and South America. Ochlockonee River also has white squirrels. These squirrels are not albinos, but instead are a gene mutation of the gray squirrel and their coats are snow white.
This is an excellent time of the year to canoe our many rivers and creeks. If you enjoy fishing, you can catch fresh and salt water fish within the park. Redfish and flounder along with bass and bream have been biting. Fall can be a very busy time for our campground, so if you plan on camping with us please make your reservations in advance.
This coming February 12th, 13th & 14th the park will be hosting our third annual Stone Age & Primitive Arts Festival. If you are interested in arrow heads and other ancient art forms from around the world this is an excellent event to attend. The event will show case such things as Flint knapping the art of projectile point fashioning; along with deer hide brain tanning, bone, wood, and antler carving. Observe Old and New World bow and arrow construction, basket weaving and early pottery. Atlatl (spear thrower) and primitive bow competitions are also scheduled.
Biting insects can be an issue at any time of the year. When you plan a visit to the park, please bring insect repellent. Visit Ochlockonee River State Park and enjoy a multitude of recreational opportunities.

Welcome to Ochlockonee River State Park
This jewel of a park is a great place to get away for a weekend or a weeklong vacation. Picnic facilities and a swimming area are located near the scenic point where the Ochlockonee and Dead rivers intersect. Ochlockonee, which means "yellow waters," is a mix of brackish, tidal surge, and fresh water. Pristine and deep, the river empties into the Gulf of Mexico. Trails allow visitors to explore the park and see the diverse wildlife, including the red-cockaded woodpecker, and natural communities such as pine flatwoods and oak thickets. A boat ramp provides easy access to the river. Both freshwater and saltwater fish inhabit the waters around the park, including largemouth bass, bream, catfish and speckled perch. For overnight visitors, there are full-facility campsites with access to restrooms and showers. Youth group camping is also available.
