Chris Herald, Park Ranger

Indian Key Historic State Park

Born and raised in Tampa, Florida, Chris has always had a passion for Florida history. For many years, Chris worked at a living history museum interpreting historic farm techniques to both youth and adults. This experience gave way to his passion for teaching. Chris decided to pursue a career with the Florida Park Service to fulfill this desire while also contributing to one of the our main missions: interpreting natural and cultural resources.

Chris is a park ranger for the Islamorada Area State Parks, which encompass Windley Key Fossil Reef Geological State Park, Indian Key Historic State Park, Lignumvitae Key Botanical State Park and San Pedro Underwater Archeological Preserve State Park. Of these, Chris most enjoys working at Indian Key Historic State Park because of its rich cultural history and contributions to the Florida Keys. He loves walking the island and working around the ruins of the old wrecking community that thrived there in the early 1800s. Chris also loves the unique environment of Indian Key, which has recently inspired him to take classes at the local college on marine and Florida Keys ecology.

On any given day, you may find Chris working on a multitude of projects at any of the Islamorada area parks. His can-do attitude and flexibility make him a valuable member of the park staff!
