The Okeechobee Battlefield Historic State Park keeps alive one of the greatest tales of the Second Seminole War. The battle, which occurred on Christmas Day in 1837, is reenacted annually on the last weekend in February. We invite you to step back into time and experience what it was like during that fraught conflict. Visit the encampments of the mighty Seminole warriors and the brave federal army and hear their tales.
At all times of the year you can visit the monuments to that battle and read the inscriptions. When the weather is nice, a table under the Chickee Pavilion is about the best place in Okeechobee to enjoy a picnic lunch.
