Marjorie’s showcase of the uniqueness of the Old Florida Culture lives on here at Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings Historic State Park. I feel a special connection to this park as someone who grew up in the culture that Marjorie so loved and documented. As I grow older, I can see the accent, words and every part of that culture changing. My own children do not use the same words or phrases as I do. Marjorie, being an outsider, noticed things about us that we would have never considered significant and recorded them. Her work preserved a slice of Old Florida Culture for all of us, sharing it with the world. I hope you visit and experience a taste of Old Florida Culture.
