The museum houses many early 19th-century artifacts, some of which were used in the old city of St. Joseph. Early Spanish and Native American items are on display as well.
The gravestone of Capt. George Kupfer, who was the first yellow fever victim buried in St. Joseph Cemetery, can also be seen here. Also on display is a three-quarter scale model of the Baldwin steam locomotive that operated in the city, another Florida first.
All the collections within the museum lead visitors along Florida’s path to statehood. Everyone enjoys the animatronic exhibit depicting the convention delegation in action. Short biographies of each of the 56 delegates who worked to bring the Florida constitution fruition are available to read. The 1838 constitution would become the state’s organic law until Florida's succession from the Union in 1861.
