As you walk down the boardwalk to the beach, you will take in the view of the ancient dune system of Deer Lake State Park.
These dunes are home to many endangered species like the Choctawhatchee beach mouse, Gulf Coast lupine, Godfrey’s golden aster and Cruise’s golden aster.
The dune ecosystem acts as the first line of defense against storms and wind and is protected by both federal and state law.
