Manager's Message

Aaron Miller, Park Manager

We are excited to announce the opening of Phase 1 of the campground. Reservations are open for the West Loop of the campground, sites 93 through 158. Campers will be impressed with the open views of Lower Grand Lagoon.

The West Loop of the campground has been closed since 2018 due to damage inflicted by category 5 Hurricane Michael. This was a major weather event that caused widespread damage and destruction to many facilities in our park, including our beloved campground. Unfortunately, as a result of the storm, we lost a significant amount of tree canopy. We intend to plant native trees and shrubs to create buffer zones between sites and provide more shade to guests.

One of the many goals of the campground reinvestment project is to elevate campsites to prevent flooding. Stormwater drains have also been installed to prevent flooding that would occur in the past due to heavy rainfall. These are major improvements that will undoubtedly enhance the overall experience and safety of our guests.

We would like to give a friendly reminder to all our park visitors that the campground is for registered guests only. If you would like more information and to see more photos of the campground, please contact our camping office during business hours. If you would like to see these improvements for yourself, please reserve your spot today through the Florida State Parks camping reservations website.

We are also pleased to announce the completion of the restroom located at the lagoon boat ramp area. The restroom includes facilities for men and women as well as families and is easily accessible near the boat ramp for all visitors to use. Construction is also underway for new pavilions located at the jetty picnic area. Previous pavilions were destroyed during Hurricane Michael. The new pavilions will provide shade and include picnic tables and grills for guests to enjoy. Be sure to check back frequently for more updates on the status of these projects.

We look forward to seeing you on your next trip!
