Volunteer Spotlight, Julie Lake
Volunteer Julie Lake has lived a life outdoors. Originally from Jamaica, she moved to Florida as a child and spent all her time playing outside. She moved to Gainesville in 1998 and enjoys exploring the parks in the area. As a frequent visitor of Devil’s Millhopper Geological State Park, she was drawn to volunteering because she appreciated the hard work of the rangers and she wanted to do her part to keep the park clean and safe for visitors.
Julie enjoys being at the park in the morning, when it is quiet and animals are active. You may often see her out in the park, blowing the trails and stairs, and making sure the park is looking its best. She also took on refinishing all of the park benches and worked diligently, even in the hot summer heat. Julie always brings a smile to the park and is a ranger favorite, as she is consistent, reliable and represents the can-do attitude all of the rangers display at the park.
