Harry McClintock, Park Ranger
Harry McClintock is by nature a traveler and explorer.
Harry grew up in Titusville, Pennsylvania. After graduating high school in 1972, he enlisted in the army, served in transportation in South Korea and Germany as well as stateside, and ended his military career as a Sergeant First Class in 1992. He then moved to Springfield, Missouri and became a long-distance trucker and driving instructor for Contract Freighters, Inc. (CFI). During this time, he logged over two million miles driving across the country and Canada with no accidents. Upon retiring from CFI in 2016, he moved to Florida and began volunteering with Florida State Parks. Late one October, he camped at Highlands and drove the ‘Terror Tram’ for a Haunted Hammock Halloween event. After Hurricane Irma, he assisted park staff with cleanup and decided to transition from volunteering to become an FPS employee. Initially, he worked as an OPS exotic removal tech and supervised groups of high school students during National Public Lands Day events. He later took a career service position as a ranger.
Harry ensures that the ranger station is friendly and welcoming to all campers and day visitors. He exchanges friendly greetings with the park’s neighbors from the backside of the park who stop regularly at the ranger station when passing through on the country road. He remains very much involved with exotic control, has explored densely vegetated areas of the park while assisting with ground truthing historic trails, and has assisted with Audubon Florida Jay Watch at Highlands Hammock and Lake June-in-Winter Scrub Preserve State Park. He has also participated in Career Day outreach for middle school students. Harry truly enjoys the friendship and camaraderie of resident staff, volunteers, and campers.
