Manager's Message

Cooler temperatures, drier air. Yes, fall is here. The park is less crowded during this season and it's a perfect time to get out and explore the trails. Canoes can be rented from the Ranger Station for $5.00 plus tax per hour for a paddle in one of the park's freshwater lagoons. As the fall migration starts birders will find the Hugh Taylor Birch is a great place to observe some of the 200 species on the park's bird list.

On Saturday, December 12 the park will again be the primary viewing location for the Winterfest Boat Parade. The Boat Parade is one of the most popular annual spectator events in the country. If you are interested in tickets or more information please visit the Winterfest website.

Guided Segway tours are provided by the park's concession, M. Cruz Rentals. The concession also offers bike and rollerblade rentals as well as souvenirs and drinks. Please call (954) 235-5082 for reservations or information or visit their website.

Camp Live Oak is an exciting, educational, environmental day camp for children ages 5 to 13 will be back during the winter break for local schools. Please visit the Camp Live Oak website for additional information.

If you are interested in volunteering at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park, or becoming part of our citizen support organization, the Friends of Birch State Park, Inc., please call the Ranger Station at (954) 564-4521.

Welcome to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

A short walk from beachside shops and condominiums, this park is an oasis of tropical hammocks-a gift from Hugh Taylor Birch to Florida's posterity. His former estate preserves four distinct natural communities, nestled between the Atlantic Ocean and the Intracoastal Waterway. Visitors can rent a canoe and paddle along a mile-long freshwater lagoon or fish from the seawall. Nature lovers can hike along two short trails and learn about local plants and wildlife while bicyclists and skaters glide along the paved park road. Visitors can access the beach via the pedestrian tunnel under A1A. Picnic areas overlook the channel; pavilions with water and electricity are available for rental. A group/youth campground is available to organized groups. The Terramar Visitor Center features displays regarding the area's natural and cultural history. Located on East Sunrise Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, off A1A.
