Additional Information for Gainesville-Hawthorne State Trail


Plant Life

The trail passes through seventeen distinct natural communities, including ruderal and developed areas. Numerous sinkholes exist along the trail. A variety of trees, vines, ferns, and even cactus can be found.

Wildlife

Fishes, amphibians, reptiles, birds, and mammals are all represented. Hawks, wading birds, alligators, snakes, turtles, rodents, deer and other vertebrates live along parts of the trail.
