BATTLE OF BLOODY MOSE
Fort Mose Historic State Park

Date: June 21 & 22, 2014 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.

Description:

The event is possible through a grant from the Florida Humanities Council.

This is the sixth annual commemoration of the historic Battle of Bloody Mose on June 26, 1740, which led to the British lifting their siege and ending their attack against Saint Augustine.  The event opens with a presentation of the colors by the Naval Sea Cadet Battalion of Saint Augustine with a cannon and musket salute. Before the first battle re-enactment at 11:00 a.m. and again at 2:00 p.m., visitors will have a chance to visit vignettes of life in Saint Augustine under siege, Yamassee preparing for battle, planning the surprise attack at the Castillo de San Marcos, General Oglethorpe and the British forces encamped at Fort Mose.   During the lunch break from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., visitors will be entertained with a performance of scenes from one of Spain’s oldest plays, Nuevo Mundo by Lope de Vega, by Florida Living History’s Theater with a Mission from Tallahassee.
The second day of the event gives visitors a chance to meet and interact with reenactors portraying the different Spanish, British, African and Native American groups that were present in Saint Augustine and at Fort Mose during the Siege of 1740 and at the Battle of Bloody Mose.
