Additional Information for Fort Foster State Historic Site

Resources

Two historic sites exist within Hillsborough River State Park; Fort Foster and Fort King Military Trail. Fort Foster was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places on June 13, 1972. Fort Foster warrants nomination to the National Register of Historic Places for two reasons. First, excavations at the site have yielded, and are likely to continue to yield, additional information about the design and construction of a Second Seminole War fort. Second, the site is associated with events that constitute a broad pattern in Florida history. The Second Seminole War had important ramifications and was a major impact on the Territorial period of Florida history.

Please be advised that the use of metal detectors at Fort Foster Historic Site is prohibited.
