Frequently Asked Questions

AmeriCorps members learning CPR
- How can I apply?
Visit www.americorps.gov and apply online under Florida State Parks. You may also call (850) 245-3102 for a paper application.
- When does your program operate?
Our program year starts in January and most members complete their service in November of the same year. All members must complete their service by December 31 of the same year.
- Are there summer positions available?
We are not able to offer summer-only positions with our program. However, we do occasionally have half time (6 month) positions that begin in June. Call (850) 245-3102 for availability.
- Is housing provided?
Not all state parks are able to provide housing but some do. For the most part, however, AmeriCorps Florida State Parks members are responsible for their own housing arrangements. For additional information, please contact the Statewide AmeriCorps Coordinator at AmeriCorps@dep.state.fl.us or at (850) 245-3102.
- What is a typical AmeriCorps week like?
Although no week is typical, members usually begin service early on Monday and serve 40 hours throughout the week at their host state park or with the team. Members focus their service on resource management, environmental education and/or volunteer recruitment and management. Occasionally, weekends are required for projects that include assisting with community and state park events. In addition, many projects require that the team camp at the state park in which they are serving. Additional demands on the member may occur as we provide wildfire, hurricane or other disaster assistance that may result in deployment.
- Can I volunteer on a AmeriCorps Florida State Parks project in my area?
Yes. There is no minimum amount of hours required to volunteer in the Florida State Parks. The choice is yours. Please contact the site supervisor for your area or the Statewide AmeriCorps Coordinator for service locations near you. Project volunteers are always welcomed!
- Can you mail additional information?
To receive information by mail, contact Michael Pazdera, State Program Coordinator at (850) 245-3081, if you have additional questions.
