The Unique Yellow Brick Façade of the Ferlita Bakery.

Manager's Message

Welcome to Ybor City, the historic and unique center of Tampa, Florida's "Barrio Latino". The Ybor City environs are designated as a National Historic District. The Ybor City Museum State Park is the preferred starting point for your exploration of the historic cigar industry and the multi-cultural community which helped build the city of Tampa.

The Ybor City Museum State Park provides visitors a glimpse into the lives of the immigrants who settled, lived in, and built the thriving community of Ybor City. The museum building is an original bakery building which was in business until the 1920s. Also on the "Historic Block", which the museum is part of, are located actual homes that were lived in by the cigar workers. These homes are called casitas "little houses". By participating in daily tours visitors can experience the lifestyle of the people who lived in them.

Ybor City Museum State Park has much to offer in regards to special events, weddings, business gatherings, or organization socials. The "Mediterranean Garden", part of the museum, is available for rental. The garden provides a wonderful venue for many occasions. Before touring Ybor City the garden provides a quiet spot to sit and plan your day. Also on the Historic Block is the Ybor City Museum Society gift shop. The gift shop is in a restored "casita". The shop has many wonderful items to remember your visit including hand rolled cigars.

While in Tampa, begin your day at Ybor City Museum State Park. It will make your Ybor City visit enjoyable and memorable.

- Kim Tennille, Park Manager

Welcome to Ybor City Museum State Park

Don Vicente Martinez Ybor came to the frontier near Tampa and built a city that became the "Cigar Capital of the World." From the opening of the first cigar factory in 1886 until the 1930s, Ybor City flourished. This urban park is dedicated to the preservation of Ybor City's unique cultural heritage. The museum, housed in the historic Ferlita Bakery, traces the rich cultural history of Ybor City and the cigar making industry. The museum has self-guided exhibits, with written and audio information, and a video presentation. La Casita, a restored cigar worker's house, is open for viewing 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. Guided tours are available Monday through Saturday. The ornamental garden can be rented for events after regular park hours. Located at the corner of 9th Avenue and 19th Street in Tampa.
