A NOTE FROM THE MANAGER

Gloria Beauchamp

As the weather cools now is the perfect time to go out hiking on our 3 miles of trails.  Have you discovered Geocaching?  We have several in the park including a "Geo-Cache Challenge" set up by our Friends of Lovers Key organization.  For more information visit www.geocaching.com and select caches by "loverskey".

How about a cool dip in the Gulf?  We have 2.5 miles of beautiful beach to relax on or build a sandcastle.

Go kayaking or canoeing along the inner waterways of the park or Estero Bay and watch the manatees frolick.  Just remember to give them their space and please do not feed the wildlife.

Bicycles, kayaks, canoes, chairs and umbrellas can be rented at the gift shop or bring your own. Spend the day and have a picnic at our bayside park which features two playgrounds and several shelters with grills.

Do you like to fish? We have several areas where you can fish from land, beach or our newly renovated fishing pier.  You can even buy live bait across Estero Blvd at the boat ramp.  For fishing regulations visit http://myfwc.com/fishing/saltwater/regulations/

Don't forget check out our various interpretive programs ranging from estuary and birding walks to wading tours and fishing clinics.  We have programs througout the month.  For more information click the tab for "Ranger Programs".

Please remember the essentials when enjoying the outdoors-- sun protection, hydration, and bug spray!

Have you fallen in love with Lovers Key? Consider becoming a volunteer for a variety of different and fun activities from interpretive tours to working in the butterfly garden. Please contact the park for more information (239) 463-4588.

You can also support the park by joining the Friends of Lovers Key.  This organization supports park programs and are raising funds for a future visitor center.  For more information please visit www.friendsofloverskey.org

GET INVOLVED

  • Volunteer - Volunteers play a vital role in the daily operations of Lovers Key State Park. Whatever your time allows, you can make a difference. Volunteers can assist in the park by driving the trams, taking park photos, monitoring sea turtles, removing non-native invasive plants, raising park funds, collecting tolls, giving out park information, monitoring water quality, maintaining the park grounds, performing minor repairs, assisting with projects, presenting guided walks and assisting the staff.

If you are a camper looking for a place to stay, the park has six beautiful volunteer camping sites with full hook-ups. You must have a self-contained RV unit and volunteer 32 hours per site. There is a one month minimum stay at these sites and a four month maximum stay. We strive to match your skills and talents with a volunteer opportunity that best suits your interests. The volunteer sites offer a wonderful way to spend some time in paradise while providing a much-needed work force that enhances the operations of the park. For more information, contact Volunteer Coordinator, Brie Ochoa (239) 463-4588.
