Volunteer Spotlight, Danny and Ramona Rutkowski

Volunteers Danny and Ramona Rutkowski

Danny and Ramona Rutkowski

Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area at Flagler Beach

Danny and Ramona have always enjoyed being outside boating, fishing, riding motorcycles, golfing or doing yard work. Being outside and soaking up fresh air and looking at the big blue sky is refreshing and invigorating to both. They also enjoy the sound of the ocean and find that relaxing.

Danny participates on the Brazilian pepper crew, turtle patrol, beach cleanup team, and the Shuck and Share Program. He served as the coordinator of the turtle patrol for six years. He also served on the Friends of Gamble Rogers State Park board for five years. Ramona has been on the turtle patrol team for nine years and served as the coordinator along with her husband for the past six years. She also heads up beach cleanup events and participates in the Shuck and Share program.

Their favorite time of year is the summertime when turtle nesting is at the peak and hatchlings have started emerging from the nests that have been monitored for two months. Catching beautiful sunrises on the early morning patrol is a real treat for Ramona.

Both of the Rutkowskis enjoy staying busy. They encourage others to find an enjoyable activity at the park, and they appreciate the support of park staff and management team for their volunteer efforts. Volunteering at the park is also a great way to meet other people.
