Staff Spotlight, Carla Kappmeyer-Sherwin

Carla Kappmeyer-Sherwin is the recipient of the 2022 Award for Volunteer Management. The Award for Excellence in Volunteer Management is given to an individual who made significant contributions to the volunteer management program.

Carla has been Highlands Hammock’s volunteer coordinator for almost 20 years. Each year, she manages the activities for more than 50 volunteers who assist with a variety of park roles, including campground hosts, museum docents, interpretive hike providers and even breakfast providers.

Carla is treasured by our volunteers and appreciated by park staff. One of her duties is to recognize and honor volunteers for their efforts. Each year, she submits four or five nominations for volunteers worthy of recognition. She has shown a proven track record of accomplishments for her efforts.

Carla is a joy to work with and her passion for volunteer is outstanding.
