Staff Spotlight, Brent Garrett

Brent Garrett

Park Ranger, Brent Garrett

Brent Garrett grew up in Florida, and he has always had a love of the outdoors whether fishing, playing soccer or going to the beach with friends. Brent has fond memories with his dad fishing and learning new techniques to catch fish and how to help preserve nature for the future. This is where his love of the outdoors began, which led him to join the Army and travel all over the world.

After retiring from the Army, Brent wanted to work in a state park. What Brent he loves most about the outdoors is the discovery that takes place and the interactions with visitors. He enjoys learning about different native species and being able to share his passion for the outdoors with people.

As the park ranger at South Fork State Park, Brent fills many shoes. His job includes resource management activities such as mowing fire breaks, exotic plant /animal control, participating in prescribed burns, and mentoring new staff and volunteers. He’s a hard person to catch, but it’s only because he is always making sure that park operations are proceeding smoothly.

His favorite aspect of his position is that there is never a dull day. From field work to interacting with visitors, each day is diverse and exciting.

Brent truly loves his job and that's what keeps him coming back every day. His goal as a park ranger is to simply keep doing the work of protecting and preserving South Fork State Park.
